Listening to Refugee Women: Syrian Refugee Women in İzmir on Rights, Protection and Voluntary Return
The evaluation report prepared under the "Listen, Understand, Share" project, implemented by Mülteci-Der, has been published. The project was carried out within the framework of the Civil Society Support Programme implemented by the Türkiye Aile Planlaması Vakfı (TAPV) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with financial support from the Government of Norway.
The “Listen, Understand, Share” project aimed to strengthen the knowledge and awareness of refugee women with limited Turkish literacy on gender equality (GE) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). To support women’s access to their rights and available services, information materials were developed in Arabic, and participant-centred awareness-raising activities were carried out.
As part of the project, five informational videos in Arabic were produced on family law, mechanisms for combating gender-based violence, voluntary return, rights under temporary protection, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. In addition, 10 information sessions and 2 closing meetings were conducted.
The published report presents the experiences, needs, knowledge gaps, and demands shared by women participants during these meetings. It also includes the reflections and recommendations put forward during the closing meeting, which brought together representatives of civil society organizations working with refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in İzmir, as well as local authorities and legal professionals.
The findings shed light on the challenges and needs faced by refugee women in areas including temporary protection, voluntary return, family law, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and access to healthcare services.
